Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a quiet area of Montreal Island called West Island. The West Island has a lot of different communities. Many who've never known about it may confuse it with a separate, west-facing island. Amanda Brugel grew up on this island, and it is often known as the place where she was born. It is true that she resided there for a very short time. Brugel became a woman of a certain age in Courtice Ontario, just outside Oshawa. When she was a child, she wanted to be a performer but an unexpected growth spurt made it impossible. In an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. Once I outgrew male partners, that's when I gave up. Some former dancers switch into acting. In Brugel's case it was the nudge of a high school drama teacher who pushed her in the right direction. The teacher who suggested she go after a role in the annual school production. The audition was successful and she was chosen as Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts at York University. For the past twenty years, the roles played by Brugel on TV and the big screen have been numerous. The character of Rita from the award winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most memorable. Brugel, the only Canadian in the Season 1 cast of the show and seen only occasionally, was the sole Canadian.
